From Wednesday 23rd through to 27th Sunday November we will be hosting a 24-hour mystery play project at Testing Ground Emporium, as part of Liminal Nights.

What is it?

Partnering with Testing Grounds, we have taken over an atmospheric three-storey warehouse adjacent to Queen Vic market. We want to facilitate a week of live performance within this amazing space, bring community together and see how quickly an act of storytelling can be staged.

Through an open EOI we hope to bring together 5 directors, 5 writers and 15 actors to make 5 new performance groups.

These groups present 1 shows over 5 days.

These shows are created and rehearsed in 24-hours.

How does it work?

Submit an EOI, tell us a bit about yourself and why this might be useful to you.

We reach out to people we would like to speak to for a zoom or face to face chat.

Once the cohort is decided all participants will meet at Testing Grounds emporium with The Liminal Space on Monday 21st of November and will be inducted into the space.

Group and days will then be allocated.

Each group will have 24-hour access to space from 6 pm the day before their show day.

Shows will be presented on Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun at 7pm.

What can I do?

Put on a performance piece that you would describe as ‘theatre’ that can incorporate the skills and abilities of writing, directing and acting. Genre, style, duration, that’s all up to you.

We are here to help, say yes and make your wild ideas a reality with the time and resources we have.

The Agreement

Each group will receive a $300 budget, free use of the entire space, marketing and promotional support from The Liminal Space and 100% off all ticket sales.

Tickets must be priced at $20 with an audience capacity of 150.

Everything is split equally within the group.

FAQS

Is this paid?
There are no salaries, but you receive all of the box office revenue and a $300 group budget to be used however you wish.

I’m a writer can I just give some scripts to the actors and be at home?
No, we want you to be building the work from the people you are working with in the group. So that this is a fully collegial experience we would recommend you be present.

Can I use a script I’ve been working on?
That’s up to you and your group.

Can we stage an existing play?
No. We haven’t got time to get the rights to those.

Can we set up a bar?
No, there will be a bar provided by Testing Grounds.

Can you help us market the show?
Yes, we will!

Can you help us stage-manage the show?
Wes we can.

Can I paint walls, drill into things, break things?
Within reason…don’t go burning down the place please (its not ours)

How long do i have access to the building?
24 hours.

The Liminal Space wish to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we perform. These include the Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung, Wadawurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation; as well as the Eastern Maar; Gunaikurnai; and Gunditjmara peoples; the Latji Latji and Ngintait peoples; the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples; and Yorta Yorta people.
